AutoWellWasher

The McBerns Autowellwasher™ will keep your pump stations fat free using as little as 100 litres of water per day!

The McBerns AutoWellWasher™ come in two types:

  • Wall mounted WellWasher, or
  • Guide rail WellWasher

This product has been in the market place for over 30 years and it is still the preferred method to assist in keeping pump stations fat free and improve the maintenance of expensive infrastructure. It is wholly designed and manufactured in Australia and has Australian, United States & International Patents. The Auto Well Washer design uses only clean water or recycled treated effluent at mains pressure to keep pump stations clean, making the wet well environment safer for work crews to carry out maintenance tasks.

The principle behind the design is simple: if the fat is washed away before it has a chance to solidify it is easily removed from the walls and pumps. By not allowing fat and grease to build up and solidify on the well walls no large fatty deposits are forced through the system, reducing blockages downstream and less stress at the treatment plant. The level sensors are always clean so the pumps work more efficiently resulting in less callouts. It has also been shown to significantly reduce sulphide corrosion on concrete walls, pumps and other internal infrastructure components. There are fewer confined space entries required, only when essential maintenance tasks are needed. Also the internal atmosphere is cleaner reducing the risk of H2S gas poisoning.

The total water usage for a single washer is as little as 100lts per day without compromising the cleaning effectiveness. During extreme drought conditions in S.E. Queensland in the early 2000’s one council tweaked the washers down to 1×1 minute wash per day and the washer still kept the pump stations clean.

Wall Mount Bracket Mounting

This is the preferred mounting method as the washer is set to the correct height and spray direction. The washer bracket is fixed to the wall of the pump station the washer heads are set to the correct spray direction top achieve the best wash area.

Generally one spray head points on to the wall and the other is directed towards the pumps and telemetry. If the washer has to be pivoted back to remove a pump or other equipment, it is then simply lowered back into place with no adjustments needed when work is complete. Positioning of the device in the well can be critical to the effectiveness of the wash system.

Configuration of wells can differ greatly, but in general the WellWasher should be positioned in the clearest available space. This ensures that the rotating arms do not come in contact with guide rails, chains, probes, etc. The mounting bracket is designed to pivot back against the well wall so as not to impede access when a pump needs to be removed.

Guide Rail Bracket Mounting

The guide rail bracket is adjustable to fit most guide rail configurations, shapes and dimensions. These include single rails of 3” and 2” diameter and twin rails from 1” to 3”. Positioning of the device in the well can be critical to the effectiveness of the wash system.

Configuration of wells can differ but, in general the Washer should be positioned in the clearest available space to ensure the rotating arms do not come in contact with guide rails, chains, probes, etc. We recommend the washer be positioned approximately 1 metre above the duty level.
